And lastly, Montblanc does not confiscate counterfeit pens. The logo "PIX" was introduced on the underside of the clip in 1997.

Serial #'s are now being reissued or reused, so the same # might be found on 2 different pens made years apart. There is no database at Montblanc of serial #'s except for limited editions. Some of the #'s started with GE or GER on the first pens to be produced with serial #'s in 1991. Older models will most likely have fewer digits than current production. Serial #'s don't have a specified number of digits. I talked to a nationaly known pen shop as well as Montblanc again this morning regarding my serial numbers and other issues regarding my recent trade for a couple of older Le Grand's. " MONTBLANC SERIAL NUMBERS - from a pen forum I think I saved the content of greencobra's post for reference and as the question seems to appear quite often. I'd be interested if anyone had anything to add about this, if the information I was given a few years ago was indeed true. I also remember asking but didn't put in my original post, what then was the purpose of a serial number if it wasn't on file somewhere. I do remember something weird, they told me that infact, serial numbers were being reused so there could be 2,3, maybe even 4 pens out there with the same number on the clip. The LE serial numbers were on file with MB. They said no, no factory record was kept using a SN, except for LE pens. One of the questions I had was could they tell when a pen was made by the SN. I called Montblanc USA a couple of years ago to ask about serial numbers. I have a post on here somewhere regarding sn's on MB pens, I just don't want to search for it and resurrect it again.
